Hydrochloric acid is the aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride gas (HCl). It is a strong acid, and the major component of gastric acid. It is also widely used in industry. Hydrochloric acid must be handled with appropriate safety precautions because it is a highly corrosive solution.

Application: 

Hydrochloric acid is a strong inorganic acid that is used in many industrial processes. The application often determines the required product quality.

Regeneration of ion exchangers

An important application of high-quality hydrochloric acid is the regeneration of ion exchange resins. Cation exchange is widely used to remove ions such as Na+ and Ca2+ from aqueous solutions, producing demineralized water.

Na+ is replaced by H3O+
Ca2+ is replaced by 2 H3O+

Ion exchangers and demineralized water are used in all chemical industries, drinking water production, and many food industries.

pH Control and neutralization

A very common application of Hydrochloric acid is to regulate the basicity (pH) of solutions.

OH- + HCl H2O + Cl-

In industry demanding purity (food, pharmaceutical, drinking water), high-quality Muriatic acid is used to control the pH of process water streams. In less-demanding industry, technical-quality hydrochloric acid suffices for neutralizing waste streams and swimming pool treatment.

Pickling of steel

Pickling is an essential step in metal surface treatment, to remove rust or iron oxide scale from iron or steel before subsequent processing, such as extrusion, rolling, galvanizing, and other techniques. Technical-quality HCl at typically 18% concentration is the most commonly-used pickling agent for the pickling of carbon steel grades.

Fe2O3 + Fe + 6 HCl 3 FeCl2 + 3 H2O

The spent acid has long been re-used as ferrous chloride solutions, but high heavy-metal levels in the pickling liquor has decreased this practice.

In recent years, the steel pickling industry has, however, developed hydrochloric acid regeneration processes, such as the spray roaster or the fluidized bed HCl regeneration process, which allow the recovery of HCl from spent pickling liquor. The most common regeneration process is the pyrohydrolysis process, applying the following formula:

4 FeCl2 + 4 H2O + O2 8 HCl+ 2 Fe2O3

By recuperation of the spent acid, a closed acid loop is established. The ferric oxide by product of the regeneration process is a valuable by-product, used in a variety of secondary industries.

Hydrochloric Acid is not a common pickling agent for stainless steel grades.

Production of inorganic compounds

Numerous products can be produced with hydrochloric acid in normal acid-base reactions, resulting in inorganic compounds. These include water treatment chemicals such as iron(III) chloride and polyaluminium chloride (PAC).

Fe2O3 + 6 HCl 2 FeCl3 + 3 H2O

Both iron(III) chloride and PAC are used as flocculation and coagulation agents in wastewater treatment, drinking water production, and paper production.

Other inorganic compounds produced with hydrochloric acid include road application salt calcium chloride, nickel(II) chloride for electroplating, and zinc chloride for the galvanizing industry and battery production.

Production of organic compounds

The largest Hydrochloric acid consumption is in the production of organic compounds such as vinyl chloride for PVC, and MDI and TDI for polyurethane. This is often captive use, consuming locally-produced Muriatic acid that never actually reaches the open market. Other organic compounds produced with Muriatic acid include bisphenol A for polycarbonate, activated carbon, and ascorbic acid, as well as numerous pharmaceutical products.

Domestic and Industrial as cleaning Compound :

Hydrochloric acid is a fundamental chemical, and as such it is used for a large number of small-scale applications, such as leather processing, household cleaning, and building construction. In addition, a way of stimulating oil production is by injecting Hydrochloric acid into the rock formation of an oil well, dissolving a portion of the rock, and creating a large-pore structure. Oil-well acidizing is a common process in the North Sea oil production industry.

Many chemical reactions involving Hydrochloric acid are applied in the production of food, food ingredients, and food additives. Typical products include aspartame, fructose, citric acid, lysine, hydrolyzed (vegetable) protein as food enhancer, and in gelatin production. Food-grade (extra-pure) Muriatic acid can be applied when needed for the final product.

Dear Sir,
Ref our telcon, please find attached Hold photos after discharging of Australian Coal and cleaning (without applying any chemicals) in oct 2018 . Then vsl loaded Indonesian Coal and will be discharging same in abt a week. Next voyage is getting fixed to load Urea from Saudi. Basis the photos, which chemical would you suggest to be used. We were thinking of RXSOL PCS along with Aquatuff. Fyi, Owners have supplied 1200 Ltrs of Aquatuff HF last month.

Dear Sir,

In image we can observe that BOTTOM line of hold is rusted, And your plan to load CLEAN CARGO like urea which is ammonia-ted product can result further heavy rusting. So here our suggestion is to go with PCS with Aquatuff HF. And after cleaning hold rust can be treated with RUST CONVERTOR by the ratio of 1:100 Ltr with water, this will change free iron rust content to orginal metal colour. ( For treatment of rust Each Hold  maximum 50 Ltr RUST CONVERTOR REQUIRED ) and Finally HOLD can be treat with SLIP COAT polymer, with dilution ration of 1:100 Ltr with Water. ( For Each Hold polymer coating  maximum 50 Ltr Slip Coat REQUIRED )

Using Procedure: 

Lime Remover HD must be used according to the hold surface area that is to be covered, the extent of contamination, the available downtime and the application method being used. Lime Remover HD is covering 10-12 Squire Meter area.

Using Procedure

I - Spray Method

Spray Method is applicable where a high–pressure machine, suitable to process chemical solutions, is used with a 50% Lime Remover HD/water solution to inject directly onto the surface area. Then, the solution must be left to act for 15 minutes followed by thorough rinsing using a high–pressure water supply source. After , the surface must be left to dry. The percentage  of dilutions may vary depending on the thickness and hardness of the deposited lime.

II – Soaking Method

Soaking is a method where Lime Remover HD is used undiluted and applied with conventional methods such as an elongated thick and hard brush, a hard sponge etc. Once applied, Lime Remover HD must be left to soak for 30 minutes. Rinse with water, and followed by leaving the surface to dry. Usually, this method is applicable to heavily contaminated small and large tank surface areas and installations.

Before cleaning of lime, we have to learn about lime composition and its bonding nature as well as dissolving properties of lime.
Lime is composit mixture of calcium and its powder state becomes lumps due to presence of moisture. Bentonite can be Broadely classified in 2 grades :
 

Granular: Granular is the preferred option for filling trenches where the conductor is covered with Bentonite and then water poured over and mixed in the trench.

 

Powder: Powder is the preferred method for pouring into bore holes to en-sure the mixture is of a thin enough consistency to reach the bottom of the bore hole. If diamond drilling is required for deep holes, possible 40m depths and deeper and the Bentonite is to be pumped through the core in to the hole, then powder would be the preferred option.

 

The greatest application of bentonite in industries is the result of its swelling property, while combine with water able to perform multitude jobs. Pure aluminium naturally forms a tough resistant oxide, almost immediately that protects it from further oxidation in most environments. Aluminium alloys, however, offer little protection against corrosion. There are three main ways to passivate these alloys: alclading, chromate conversion coating and anodizing. Alclading is the process of metallurgically bonding a thin layer of pure aluminium to the aluminium alloy. Chromate conversion coating is a common way of passivating not only aluminium, but also zinc, cadmium, copper, silver, magnesium, and tin alloys. Anodizing forms a thick oxide coating. This finish is more robust than the other processes and also provides good electrical insulation, which the other two processes do not.

IN general practice prior to storing hydrogen peroxide in an aluminium container, the container can be passivated by rinsing it with a dilute solution of nitric acid and peroxide alternating with deionized water. The nitric acid and peroxide oxidizes and dissolves any impurities on the inner surface of the container, and the deionized water rinses away the acid and oxidized impurities.

Inspect cleaning tank, hoses and cartridge filter. Install new filter elements.
Fill cleaning tank with RO solution then, Slowly add 25 grammes of ORG 10  for each litre of cleaning tank capacity. Thoroughly mix cleaning solution by using a mixer or by circulating it through the cleaning pump. The solution may be heated to improve cleaning effectiveness.
Do not exceed the membrane manufacturer’s temperature limits.
Circulate the solution through the membrane bank in the feed direction for one hour at the flow rate recommended by the membrane or system manufacturer. If the manufacturer’s recommendations are not available, the following guidelines may be used.

TO USE 

For normal CIP cleaning or soak cleaning RO and UF system completely , Pre dissolve in warm water before adding to system. Typically used Concentration is 0.7 to 1.5 % or 9-20 ounces of RXSOL ORG 10 per each 10 Gallon (67-150 grams/10 l) f water. Circulate throughout the system for 20 Minutes at a temperature of 120-160 degree F (49 – 71 degree C)

Observe the recommendation of the manufacturer of the membrane for  Maximum temperature.

In cases of heavy fouling, the first return flow (up to 15% of the cleaning tank volume) should be diverted to drain to prevent redeposition of removed solids.
In multi-pass systems, best results will be achieved if each pass is cleaned separately.
The solution should be discarded if it becomes turbid or discoloured by removed material.
A fresh solution should then be prepared before cleaning additional passes.

Rinse with permeate before returning the system to service.

Inhibitor protects truck mount components.

First of all mix 1 Kg powder with 4 Ltr water to get powder dissolve completely in to the BUCKET. Then disconnect truck mount water inlet and solution outlet hoses. Drain water completely from water box, Then add 4 Ltr powder mixed water into water box to dissolve. Then start engine to run solution through truck mount  atleast for 15 minutes to dissolve scale from surface. Finally connect water inlet hose and solution hose, flush with water for 5 minutes. Add 250ml of Alkali Cleaner RXSOL ORG - 6 to water box and run for 2 to 5 minutes to neutralise residual of scale ion. Then circulate system with clear water to remove all loose particle as well as cleaner present inside the system. 

 

Note For heavy scale build-up Truck Mount Descaler may be diluted with mix 1.5 Kg powder with 4 Ltr water and the solution should be circulated for a longer period.

RXSOL POTABLE WATER TEST KIT contains everything needed to monitor the drinking water onboard in accordance with WHO guidelines. The kit measures pH, free and total chlorine, plus total coliforms and E.coli bacteria. Because variation in the pH level can affect chlorination, it is important to monitor and control the pH. Chlorine testing is done using the DPD  Activator solution is used to determine total chlorine (the sum of free and combined chlorine). Using Procedure: 

Dilute COIL BRITE RX as provided to tough cleaning problems, or dilute in ratios of 1 : 5 to 1 : 15 in water depending on surfaces to be cleaned COIL BRITE RX can be applied with a brush or sprayer on wet surfaces. Apply from the bottom and work up allowing two to five minutes for penetration of the deposits. Rinse well with water while brushing in order to get a brighter surface. For fiberglass, use 1 : 5 ratio with water, spray or brush onto surface, brush off deposits and rinse.

Operating Properties (Typical):

Application: Maintenance product – special application Circulating the product through the heat exchanger.
OperatingConcentration: Free Acid: 0.9 - 1.7 points
Operating temperature: Ambient
Operating time: Typically at least 30 minutes.

Specific process conditions may warrant operating the above parameters outside of the typical ranges. Please consult your RX MARINE representative:

Charge Instructions:
HEAT EXCHANGER CLEANER is used as delivered at ambient temperatures. If time is not a factor in the clean out, the solution can be diluted up to 50% with water.

Charge details:
1) If used at the 50% dilution: Fill the clean tank approximately ½ full with fresh water.
2) Set valves to proper setting for clean out
3) Plumb the circulating system to the correct side of the heat exchanger Turn on.
4) Slowly add 1 gallon of HEAT EXCHANGER CLEANER for every two gallons of  bath (or use the HEAT EXCHANGER CLEANER neat)
5) Allow to circulate for at least ½ hour dependent on sludge.
6) Turn off pump and disconnect plumbing from heat exchanger
7) Flush heat changer with fresh water to remove residual acid.
8) Turn heat exchanger valves back to running positions.
It is important to circulate the solution through the heat exchanger for at least 30 minutes. The cleaning time will vary depending on the amount and type of sludge build-up. After the heat exchanger is cleaned, it is highly recommended that the  unit  be  flushed with water. If this step is not taken, an increase in the free acid of the operating phosphate solution might occur.

CAUTION: DO NOT PIPETTE BY MOUTH ::: Free Acid
Equipment needed:::
• Burette Assembly
• 5-ml pipette and bulb
• 250-ml flask or beaker
• 100 ml graduated cylinder

Reagents needed:::
• Bromophenol Blue indicator
• 1.0N Sodium Hydroxide

Free Acid Procedure:
1. Using a pipette, pipette 5-ml of your solution into a 100-ml graduated cylinder. Fill the cylinder to the 100 ml mark with DI or RO water, then mix by up ending 2-3 times.

2. Pipette 5 ml of the above dilution to a beaker or flask; add 4-5 drops of Bromophenol Blue indicator. Then add 1.0N Sodium Hydroxide drop-wise until the
solution changes from yellow to blue. Record the number of mls as points of Free Acid.

The concentration is calculated by multiplying the points of Free Acid times the HEAT EXCHANGER CLEANER factor 0.59. This equals the concentration in percent by volume
of HEAT EXCHANGER CLEANER in solution. Points of Free Acid X 59 = Percent by volume of HEAT EXCHANGER CLEANER

HEDP is used as chelating agent. The dosage of 1-10mg/L is preferred as scale inhibitor, 10-50mg/L as corrosion inhibitor, and 1000-2000mg/L as detergent. Usually, HEDP is used together with polycarboxylic acid. It is used as a strong chelating agent for metal ions like Ca, Mg & Fe in water treatment, textile applications. Its efficient inhibition for CaCO3 & CaSO4 alone or in combination with low molecular weight polymers. Very effective in protecting metal corrosion. HEDP also having very strong chlorine stability.

Using Procedure: 

Concentrated Blue RXSOL effective to clean and remove grease, lubricants, cutting oils, fuel oils, tar, road salt, light carbon, food stains, wax, animal fat, mildew, & soot 

Concentrated Blue RXSOL  although mostly used on decks, has numerous applications, including engine room and engine cleaning, Ro/Ro and ferries car deck bulkhead cleaning, refrigeration spaces, fishing vessel holds, cargo holds and tanks cleaning and general ship, yacht and pressure boat exterior cleaning.
 

For Floor and plate cleaning - Concentrated Blue RXSOL  may be used for different types of cleaning and in a number of ways. Apply a solution of Concentrated Blue RXSOL  (5-20%) in warm or cold water on soiled surfaces using brushes, rags or hand spray. Allow 5-10 minutes for the product to act and rinse off with plenty of water. Where soiling persists, the product may be applied undiluted provided that all necessary precautions have been taken.

For Spare PARTS CLEANING

  1. Dilute Concentrated Blue RXSOL with warm or cold water.
  2. If spare parts are heavily soiled Soak for 5 - 10 minutes otherwise for light cleaning operation spray Concentrated Blue RXSOL on parts then finally wipe or rinse to clean.
  3. Dilution levels will vary depending upon the type and amount of substance being removed and the type of surface being cleaned. It is best to begin with a high concentration of Rxsol Concentrated Blue RXSOL cleaner and Degreaser and progress to weaker solutions until the most economical level of effective cleaning is obtained.
  4. Concentrated Blue RXSOL cleaner and Degreaser may attack painted surfaces in concentrations with less than 20 parts water.
  5.  NOTE: Optimum performance occurs with stronger concentrations, dilution with warm water, agitation or scrubbing and extended surface contact.
  6. CAUTION: Cleaner residues may inhibit the cure of anaerobic products.

Other typical cleaning method For lightly soiled engines spray or brush Concentrated Blue RXSOL full strength, leave for ten minutes then simply hose off.
If high pressure washing is used, use a solution of 1- 20% Concentrated Blue RXSOL in warm water.
As a spray-and-wipe cleaner for upholstery and hard surfaces, dilute 1:10 Concentrated Blue RXSOL with water and use in an atomiser.

Storage and Handling :

Store product in the unopened container in a dry location. Optimal Storage: 8 °C to 21 °C. Storage below 8 °C or greater than 28 °C can adversely affect product properties.Material removed from containers may be contaminated during use. 3. For mopping of Industrial floors or working station to clean greas and oil deposits use ½ to ¾ of a cup of Concentrated Blue RXSOL  to a bucket of water.
4. As a degreaser use 1 part Concentrated Blue RXSOL  with 5 to 10 parts of water.
5. As a vehicle washing compound mix ½ a cup of Concentrated Blue RXSOL to a bucket of water.
